The Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) offers a funding programme specifically designed to support UK-based small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the civil aerospace sector. This initiative aims to strengthen and encourage technological innovation within the aerospace supply chain.

  • Outline Stage (OS): Opens three times annually; applications are reviewed by the ATI.
  • Full Stage Application (FSA): By invitation only, following a successful Outline Stage.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Lead Applicant:
  • Must be a UK-registered SME or a business of any size collaborating with at least one SME.
  • Project work must be conducted within the UK, with the intention to exploit results domestically.
  • Must align with the UK's Aerospace Technology Strategy.
  • Required to sign the ATI SME Programme Agreement.
  • Project Team Members:
  • Can include UK-registered businesses of any size, academic institutions, charities, not-for-profit organizations, public sector bodies, or research and technology organizations (RTOs).
  • Must perform project work in the UK and plan to utilize the outcomes within the country.

Funding Details:

  • Grant Coverage:
  • 70% for small or micro organizations
  • 60% for medium-sized organizations
  • 50% for large organizations
  • SME Participation: At least 50% of the total eligible project costs must be allocated to micro, small, and/or medium-sized businesses within the consortium.

The ATI Hub provides assistance through:

  • Consultations with ATI technologists
  • Themed innovation workshops
  • Guidance on preparing effective presentations and applications
  • Facilitating connections for potential consortium partnerships
