Summary:
This Innovate UK competition will invest up to £15 million in UK SMEs to develop innovative solutions to healthcare challenges. Projects can target areas like disease prevention, diagnostics, tailored treatments, digital health, or healthcare delivery. Eligible projects must demonstrate both commercial and technical feasibility and enhance SME productivity. Projects must last between 6 and 36 months and start by 1 May 2025.

Eligibility:
Open to UK-registered SMEs leading industry-led R&D projects focused on healthcare solutions, including advanced therapies, diagnostics, digital health, and therapeutic development. Collaboration is encouraged, and projects must be conducted in the UK. Subcontractors from overseas are allowed with justification. Projects must improve UK competitiveness and productivity.

Scope:
Your project can focus on any health, or healthcare, sector or discipline. For example, disease prevention, diagnostics, healthcare delivery, or development of digital health technologies, and can include prototyping, clinical trials, regulatory planning, or intellectual property protection. Funding is available for experimental development and industrial research, but not for fundamental research.

Research Categories:
Funding covers up to 70% for small enterprises in industrial research and up to 45% in experimental development, with lower rates for medium and large companies. Academic partners can receive 80% of full economic costs (FEC) for research activities.

Additional Information:

  • SMEs can lead one project and collaborate on two others.
  • A portfolio approach will be used to ensure a variety of projects across sectors.
