Inventya is excited to share details about an upcoming Innovate UK Collaborative Research & Development (CR&D) competition aimed at enhancing innovation within the UK’s creative industries. With a total funding pot of £2 million, individual projects can secure between £150,000 and £200,000 to develop products and tools that strengthen the UK creative economy.

Competition Overview

Deadline for Applications: 29th January 2025, 11:00 AM
Notification Date: 2nd April 2025
Project Duration: Must commence by 1st July 2025 and conclude by 31st March 2026

Project Scope and Requirements

To be eligible, proposals must:

  • Demonstrate support for the growth and advancement of the UK creative industries.
  • Present innovative, ambitious solutions addressing industry challenges.
  • Offer significant improvements over existing solutions, with measurable impacts on company growth.
  • Aim to create new revenue streams, ensuring market readiness within 12 months post-project completion.

Collaborative projects in regional clusters are encouraged, particularly in areas like:

  • Sustainability in the screen sector
  • Music industry innovation
  • Managing digital media copyright
  • Advancing possibilities in VFX
  • Modernising traditional design and crafts
  • Enhancing transparency in the advertising supply chain


Eligibility Criteria

  • Projects must be led by a UK-registered small or micro business.
  • Collaboration is required with other UK-registered organisations, including businesses, academic institutions, non-profits, public sector bodies, and research organisations.
  • All project work and exploitation of results must take place in the UK.
  • Subcontracting is allowed but must be limited to UK-based providers, with costs not exceeding 50% of each partner’s total project costs.
