Innovate UK is offering up to £25million in loans for UK-registered micro, small, and medium-size denterprises (SMEs) working on highly innovative, late-stage R&D projects.These projects should demonstrate strong commercial potential and contribute to significant economic growth in the UK.

  • Loan range: £100,000 to £2 million
  • Competition open: 29 August 2024
  • Competition close: 30 October 2024 at 11:00 am (UK time)
  • Next rounds: Round 18 (31 October 2024 – 8 January 2025); Round 19 (9 January 2025 – 5 March 2025)

Eligibility:

  • The project must lead to innovative products, processes, services, or propose innovative business models significantly ahead of current market offerings.
  • Focus must be on one or more of the future economy areas in Innovate UK’s action plan, including Net Zero, Health and Wellbeing, and Next Generation Digital Technologies.
  • Applicants must show the need for public funding, ability to cover interest payments, and the capacity to repay the loan.

Key evaluation criteria:

  • Innovative potential of the idea
  • A deliverable business plan with market potential
  • Skilled team and robust risk management
  • Financial plans that show ability to repay

The loans can support activities like prototyping,testing, demonstration, and validation in real-lifeconditions.

Inclusivity:

Applications are encouraged from underrepresented communities including businesses outside of London, Oxford, and Cambridge,as well as ethnic minority groups, women, and people with disabilities.

Restrictions:

This loan does not cover grant funding,marketing, or sales activities.
