Objective: This grant aims to support the development of innovative, next-generation respiratory Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that addresses current limitations and enhances pandemic preparedness. The focus is on ensuring availability, accessibility, and affordability of high-quality respiratory protection within the EU

Scope:

· Development of new technologies or advanced applications of existing materials.

· Design, prototype, validate, and CE-mark cost-effective and sustainable respirators.

· Proposals must offer higher protection levels than FFP2 respirators, ensure universal fit, and allow comfortable multi-hour use.

· Target different populations (clinicians, critical workers, public, etc.).

· Include a dissemination and market readiness plan to ensure demand and production capability.

· Demonstrate rapid production scale-up feasibility using distributed manufacturing and accessible raw materials.

· Promote reusability and environmental sustainability.

· Ensure ease of storage and use.

Expected Impact:

· Introduction of sustainable, universally effective PPE for healthcare and essential workers, patients, and the public.

· Availability of superior respiratory protection for stockpiling and response to pandemics.

· Reduction of single-use PPE dependency, enhancing EU's supply chain resilience.

· Gradual replacement of regular respirators with cost-effective, user-friendly next-generation versions.
