Innovate UK's Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) is inviting organisations to compete for a share of £1 million, inclusive of VAT, to create accessible and inclusive solutions aimed at supporting transport users during disrupted journeys. This competition is a golden opportunity for businesses to develop either physical or digital solutions that enhance the experience for users facing challenges or barriers within the UK's transport networks.

Funding Scope and Objectives: The focus is on developing solutions that enable users to continue their journeys safely and comfortably amidst disruptions. Proposals should cater to specific user groups facing hesitance or barriers, aiming to minimize discomfort, provide alternative journey options, or facilitate a return to the journey's start point, all while closely matching original travel plans.

Eligibility and Project Scope:

· Projects can be up to £250,000 in size, VAT inclusive.

· Solutions should be usable in real-time, requestable on-demand, or function as preemptive measures.

· A strong emphasis is placed on accessibility and inclusivity, with the expectation that solutions will cover one or multiple transport modes.

· Proposals must demonstrate compliance with UK accessibility standards and outline a clear route to market.



Themes and Areas of Focus: Projects may focus on aiding individuals with physical or mental disabilities, neurodiversity, learning disabilities, and considerations around age, gender inclusion, personal safety, and more. Solutions should be adaptable across various transport modes, enhancing overall accessibility and inclusivity.

Exclusions: The competition will not fund projects that duplicate existing work, lack an accessibility or inclusivity perspective, fail to benefit UK transport networks, or potentially negatively impact other transport users.
